Composite Manufacturing Engineering Technician

Role:   

We are now looking for a person with relevant experience in the high-end composite manufacturing to take an important role in our composite research and development activities in Portugal. This role is based in our Portuguese entity in Viana do Castelo where you will take a big responsibility in manufacturing composite prototypes and related tasks. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Fabricate composite prototype tooling, moulds, jigs, and assembly fixtures according to drawings.  
  • Manufacture composite parts using standard processes and procedures: wet lay-up, bonding, vacuum bagging, infusion systems, assembly processes, repairs, cutting, deburring, and finishing. 
  • Hands on work with filament and/or band winding machines, resin mixing equipment, chopstrand guns, electrical stitchers and scissors, and any other equipment utilized during the winding process to feed fiberglass roving and tape bobbins to the machine.
  • Execute the basic maintenance work to keep the composite manufacturing equipment in working condition.  
  • Prepare (composite) parts for manufacturing: reading and understanding of engineering drawings, assisting on scheduling and process specifications. Interpreting all related documents to understand tooling, materials, sequence of operations, techniques, and other aspects required for manufacture 
  • Carry out manufacturing quality control of composite materials and components.  
  • Support in the preparation and execute test parts or coupons. 
  • Work where necessary, with other functions, to assist in achieving overall project objectives. 

 

Skills and qualifications: 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in large high-end composite manufacturing (Aeronautics, Wind Energy, Racing-Yachts, etc.).  
  • High level of IT literacy, use of Microsoft Office tools (word, excel) and commitment to develop programming skills on filament winding machine control software is essential to this role. Proven experience using filament winding software such as CADfil will be a significative plus. 
  • Must be able to develop own knowledge related to composite manufacturing processesability to author standards and specific instructions will be a plus. 
  • Understands the basic quality assurance concepts, for example of volume fraction, void content and glass transition temperatureetc.. 
  • Good communication skills, motivated and able to use own initiative. 
  • Trained and experienced with problem solving techniques. 
  • Engineering qualification would be an advantage.
