Senior Composite Manufacturing Engineer

Role 

We are now looking for a Senior composite manufacturing engineer to take an important role in the construction and testing of our full-scale wave energy converter. This role is based in our Portuguese entity in Viana do Castelo where you will take the main responsibility for all composite related tasks.

 

Responsibilities

  • Support the company composite product projects from design, fabrication, modification and evaluation of parts, components, and tooling.
  • Analyse and recommend design changes for manufacturing optimization, cost reduction and quality improvement.
  • Manage your modules to meet performance, schedule and budget targets. 
  • Produce technical documentation. 
  • Provide technical assistance to project members on related tasks.
  • Significantly contribute on technology transfer tasks and projects.
  • Prepare and present engineering detail and design reviews.
  • Perform assorted job-related duties, as assigned.
  • Prepare, develop, and implement manufacturing standard work practices.
  • Support pilot installations in the field.

   

Skills and qualifications

  • Engineering degree with emphasis on composites and 5 to 10 years related industry experience (Wind Energy, Aeronautics, etc.).
  • Experience with composite design and prototype fabrication.
  • Strong history of the design and implementation of large composite structures.
  • Familiarity with test methods relevant for composite materials.
  • Hands-on experience with fabricating parts by filament winding, hand-layup and VARTM: skill at using basic shop and composite process equipment.
  • Experience in mechanical systems, besides composites: metal structures, mechanisms, dynamics, etc.
  • Experience with CAD technology (solid modelling and drawing creation).
  • Filament winding machine programming and operation is a plus.
  • Familiarity with core material thermo-forming is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and understand priorities, based on project schedule.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills (English is a must).
  • Ability to develop documentation (reports, drawings, etc.) and engineering presentations.
