Internship/Master thesis - Met-Ocean Data Handling

Project description

In order to evaluate potential sites for wave energy production around the world, CorPower performs various analyses of data related to such sites. The location must satisfy a set of specific criteria to be qualified for economically viable deployment of wave energy technology.

This project is focused on acquiring and pre-processing of large met-ocean datasets used for such site evaluations. The wind and wave datasets of interest include both in-situ and satellite measurements, as well as model data.

Tasks

  • Creating a data catalogue and defining the data quality requirements as well as the relevant scope of the data
  • Screening of the wave and offshore wind data sources online and updating the data catalogue
  • Code development for automated data fetching from the most suitable online resources, pre-process and preparation of the data for analysis
  • Performing data analysis (using existing codes in Python) related to energy production, and statistical analysis on wind, solar and wave production profiles
  • Dataset evaluation: the datasets should be valid and results applicable to our purpose
  • Generating reports for each site under study and presenting the results in the team

For this project we value experience and interest in:

  • Strong interest and skills in data analysis
  • Basic level of programming skills (in Python)
  • Skills in data quality control is qualifying
  • Experience from physical measurements and related data management is qualifying
  • Experience in processing of Geoscience data is qualifying

Technical field: Data Analysis, Programming, Met-ocean, Geoscience

When:  2019 - Early 2020; duration of 3-6 months, with possibility for extension

Scope: Full time
