Internship - Validation of test rig performance

CorPower has invested in advanced dry testing capabilities by developing bespoke test rigs capable of accurately simulating the loading the Wave Energy Converter (WEC) devices will experience in the ocean, starting in a controlled machine hall environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of the mechanical systems and modules (structure, gearbox, etc.). our first, one-of-a-kind, full-scale dry test rig.

Prior to testing our WEC, the rigs standalone performance must be analysed to ensure various desired sea-states are accurately simulated. In doing this, we can gain much more confidence in the quality of the test data, long before the WEC has been deployed in ocean tests.

By partaking in this internship with CorPower, you will gain invaluable experience in commissioning and testing of large, industrial machines, as well as playing a part to bring a wave energy to the forefront.

The internship is part of the HiWave-5 wave demonstration project, funded by the Swedish Energy Agency.

The task will be:

  • Perform dry-testing and inspection on the test rig and mechanical sub-systems in our machine hall
  • Write test plans, procedures and reports
  • Contribute to test rig commissioning and start-up activities
  • Investigate new solutions to improve performance, reliability or manufacturability
  • Compile project report summarizing the results and conclusions

Required skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Understanding of large, complex machines
  • Experience in producing high quality reports
  • Interest and knowledge of renewable energy devices
  • Understanding of rotating machinery
