Project Description
CorPower is a fast-paced company, and we strive to make our work as efficient as possible. We continuously implement improvement projects to make our processes even better. The CorPower WEC relies on lightweight structures to maximise its Annual Energy Production. As a result, the amount of composite designed modules has increased over time. The aim of this project is to use a waste management hierarchy approach to improve the carbon footprint and sustainability of those modules and evaluate how different designs and end-of-life approaches can enable more efficient, cost-effective and environmentally responsible structures.
Technical field: Composite and Structural Engineering
When: H1 2023, 4-6 months
Scope: Full time
Tasks:
- Conduct a literature review on recycling methods and end-of-life alternatives of composite structures
- Conduct a literature review on the usage and properties of state-of-the-art biobased composite materials
- Carry out design optimization studies and testing of subcomponents to reduce material usage
- Perform structural analysis using existing FEA model
- Compare the performance of different material inputs and their impact on sub-components
- Design a test plan according to findings from structural analysis and literature reviews, oversee the testing and post-process the test results
- Develop parametric tools using in-house LCA models to evaluate how different designs and end-of-life approaches can reduce the environmental impact of composite structures
For this project we value experience in:
- FEA analysis of composite structures – in ANSYS
- Hands-on composite manufacturing and/or testing
- Life cycle analysis of composite structures or other materials
- Design and optimization of structure design, preferably in composite structures
- Renewable energy – onshore and offshore

CorPower Ocean is a global leader in Wave Energy technology. The ocean forms one of the largest yet least explored renewable energy sources on earth. We bring a new class of high efficiency Wave Energy Converters (WECs) enabling robust and cost-effective harvesting of electricity from ocean waves.
